Mansfield

Downtown Mansfield has all the charm!

Historic Downtown Mansfield started over 125 years ago in the 1850’s at the crossroads of Main and Broad. At the same time the mill was built, Feild opened a general merchandise store on Broad street, followed later by a post office in 1860. The center of Mansfield was established. Visit Broad and Main street today, and you’ll see a vibrant downtown area that still offers movies in the original 1917 Farr Best Theater, a gem of Mansfield history. The 158-seat venue was first opened by Milton May Farr, who became one of the cities most prominent citizens and oversaw the installation of the first electric lights in the city, and a modernized water system.

Don’t miss a stop at the Mansfield Historical Museum and Heritage Center

The Heritage Center is located at 102 North Main Street which is open Tuesday through Saturday. The museum features displays and artifacts from Mansfield’s early settlers. It is housed in the W.B. McKnight Building, named for Dr. William Burney McKnight, one of Mansfield’s first physicians. After touring the museum, visit their gift shop where you can purchase a souvenir of your visit. Ornaments of historic buildings are available as well as notecards, cookbooks and various other remembrances.
